Northmarq is currently looking for a collaborative individual with strong accounting and leadership skills to join the Finance & Accounting team as Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller will be an integral team member in supporting our accounting and financial reporting activities and contributing to execution of strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, forward thinking with a growth mindset and innovative.

Position Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting and month-end close processes, including review of work performed by accounting staff and completion of variance analysis
- Responsible for financial management reports, including internal monthly financial statements and internal reporting for management
- Supervision of accounting staff
- Oversee annual audits and tax preparation processes
- Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Identify and implement improvements to streamline processes and improve team efficiency
- Perform technical accounting research and provide written and verbal analysis to management, as applicable
- Oversee treasury management functions including warehouse facility projections, cash utilization, and liquidity analyses
- Assist in preparation and review of budgets and forecasts
- Assist the Finance and Accounting team in key business projects and implementation of strategic initiatives
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 8+ years of relevant Accounting/finance experience
- Experience managing people required
- Experience in commercial real estate and mortgage banking preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly with Excel
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Proficiency with accounting software systems and CRM (i.e. Salesforce) preferred
- CPA or MBA preferred
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to collaborate effectively with co-workers and cross functional areas
- Readily adapts to change and encourages change adoption among co-workers
