At Moody's, we unite the brightest minds to turn today's risks into tomorrow's opportunities. We do this by striving to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome to be who they are-with the freedom to exchange ideas, think innovatively, and listen to each other and customers in meaningful ways.

If you are excited about this opportunity but do not meet every single requirement, please apply! You still may be a great fit for this role or other open roles. We are seeking candidates who model our values: invest in every relationship, lead with curiosity, champion diverse perspectives, turn inputs into actions, and uphold trust through integrity.

Description

Moody's U.S. Consumer ABS Surveillance Team in the structured finance department is responsible for monitoring ratings on a wide variety of securitizations that are backed by consumer assets, including auto loans/leases, auto floorplan, credit cards, personal loans, student loans, solar loans/leases and timeshare loans. The team produces timely and high-quality research on developing trends and events in these asset classes through sector and issuer comments and in-depth research reports, and also participates in industry conferences and conducts investor/issuer meetings.

Responsibilities

The individual will be primarily responsible for analyzing the portfolio, structural, legal, and other credit aspects of U.S. Consumer ABS structured finance transactions and producing publishable research. The individual is also expected to undertake special projects intended to enhance Moody's thought leadership in credit markets and operational efficiencies. The candidate will be expected to lead rating committees and offer their analysis of the credit risk of the transactions, potential credit impact of the terms of the transaction documents and conduct appropriate market dialogue around transaction credit analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Act as lead ratings analyst for U.S. consumer ABS transactions. Analyze transaction credit risks, model cash flows and analyze transaction and legal documents to formulate rating recommendations and opinions
  • Communicate effectively with customers, including arrangers, issuers, investors, and outside legal experts
  • Represent the team in operational reviews, issuer and investor meetings
  • Write publishable research, including transaction-related reports, articles and in-depth reports on credit issues affecting the industry
  • Engage in projects where data analytics and general artificial intelligence (GenAI) are applied to deliver innovative solutions.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in economics, statistics, applied mathematics, financial engineering or related quantitative field or advanced law degree. Or bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, applied mathematics, financial engineering or related quantitative field with at least five or more years of experience as a credit analyst.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong modelling skills and ability to perform cash flow analysis using analytical tools
  • Sound judgment and highest ethical standards
  • Capable of developing independent opinions and defending own views clearly and succinctly
  • Professional, pro-active, collaborative, responsive
  • Highly organized and efficient, with ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong teamwork skills and works well with colleagues with different viewpoints
  • Ability to work on own initiative, without the need for close supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and work experience in consumer ABS is desirable
  • Master's degree or advanced law degree is highly desirable but not required
  • Strongly prefer knowledge and working experience with various legal documents for securitizations, including legal counsel experience
  • Familiarity with data analytics and GenAI, and the capacity to apply these skills for insightful problem-solving.

Other considerations

  • Open to reviewing candidates with less years of experience with relevant skills for the role
