Summary of Job: The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and managing the organization’s financial records. This role requires leadership, analytical expertise, and a deep understanding of accounting principles.
Essential Job Functions: (responsibilities, duties, and standards of the position, including supervisory level and reporting relationship)
Financial Reporting
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP or IFRS.
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
- Provide financial data and reports to senior management to support decision-making.
- General Ledger Management
- Maintain and oversee all journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of the general ledger.
- Monitor and review account balances, resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budgets, highlighting variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Internal Controls and Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal control policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors for audits and filings.
- Team Leadership
- Manage and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Delegate tasks effectively and ensure timely completion.
- Systems and Process Optimization
- Identify opportunities for improving accounting processes and implementing best practices.
- Work closely with IT to maintain and enhance accounting software and systems
Qualifications and Skills: (in terms of experience, education & training)
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- CPA, CMA, or other relevant certification (preferred).
Experience
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks).
Skills
- Strong understanding of GAAP/IFRS and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and senior management.
