The Position on our Team:

The Tax Accountant is responsible for ensuring the company’s compliance with federal and state tax laws through the meticulous preparation and review of tax workpapers, and the review of tax returns and related documentation. This role involves handling multi-state tax compliance, consolidated tax reporting, sales and use tax returns, and Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) testing. The Tax Accountant will also manage federal and state tax notices, maintain a detailed tax calendar, and support special projects as needed. This role is essential for maintaining the company’s tax compliance and ensuring the accuracy of tax-related processes.

This position is on a hybrid schedule with a mix of in-office and remote workdays.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Review multi-state sales and use tax returns for accuracy, ensuring all transactions are properly reported and taxes are paid according to state requirements.
  • Prepare tax workpapers to ensure accurate and timely compliance with varying state tax laws and regulations.
  • Prepare workpapers for quarterly REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) testing to verify compliance with REIT regulations, including income, asset, and distribution tests.
  • Address and resolve notices from federal and state tax authorities by researching issues, preparing responses, and ensuring resolutions are in line with tax laws.
  • Maintain a comprehensive tax calendar to track deadlines for all tax returns and ensure timely filings.
  • Undertake occasional special projects related to process improvements or other assignments / research projects as directed by management.

What You Bring to Macerich:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 1 – 3 years Sales & Use Tax experience
  • Previous Form 1065 experience is desirable but not essential
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively, demonstrating attention to detail and accuracy.

Salary

Estimated compensation for this position is:
$67,800 to $84,800 (Annual) + Annual Bonus Eligibility

The salary listed is an estimate and not guaranteed.  A salary offer will vary based on applicant education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity, and alignment to market data.
