Job Summary

Michigan Medicine is recruiting a Speech-Language Pathologist to join our team of 3 LSLS Certified Auditory-Verbal therapists on the Cochlear Implant and Pediatric Otolaryngology teams. The Cochlear Implant Program at Michigan Medicine specializes in pre- and post-operative care for cochlear implant candidates and recipients. Our program was established in 1984 and has provided cochlear implants to over 3000 individuals. The C.S. Mott Children?s Hospital Pediatric Otolaryngology Clinic provides comprehensive care for children with hearing concerns, from birth through age 21. Speech-Language Pathologists are integral team members, both pre- and post-operatively. Working on this team of physicians and audiologists, we provide testing, diagnosis, and treatment of children with hearing disorders.

Responsibilities*

This position will be responsible for performing pre- and post-operative speech and language evaluations, evaluations and re-evaluations of children with other hearing technologies, and providing Listening and Spoken Language therapy to support development of listening and spoken language for children with permanent hearing loss who utilize cochlear implant(s), hearing aid(s), or bone conduction hearing device(s). There may also be opportunity to provide auditory rehabilitation for adult patients following cochlear implantation.
The position may also involve participation in the design, development, and implementation of clinical and research protocols and presentation or publication of research findings. Opportunities exist for participation in lectures, workshops, and in-services to professionals throughout the state of Michigan and beyond.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence
  • LSLS certified Auditory verbal therapist is required for the senior level
  • Michigan Licensure or eligibility for state of Michigan licensure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with medical and allied health professionals within an interdisciplinary team

Senior
Progressively complex clinical experience in Speech-Language Pathology, with no less than 5 years of evaluation/treatment experience is required

Desired Qualifications*

  • Prior experience working with children with hearing loss

Additional Information

This is a full time, FLSA exempt position based at Briarwood Hearing Rehabilitation Center and CS Mott Hospital working a day schedule, Monday through Friday.

Union Affiliation

This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
