Job Summary

The Department of Radiology at Michigan Medicine of the University of Michigan has an immediate opening as a Research Laboratory Specialist Associate. The primary role of the candidate will be to maintain and improve lab performance via relevant specialist skills, in this case software engineering, project management, data management and image analysis. Candidates will assist the PI and lab members in the storage, processing, and analysis of data; data are from clinical trials or through academic collaborations, and in particular medical imaging as a focus of the group (CT, MRI). The candidate will additionally be responsible for aiding the PI in oversight of staff and progress of individual projects. Studies are performed in a multi-disciplinary environment which include scientists, physicians, statisticians, and engineers, as well as clinical trial managers and industrial partners. We seek individuals with the motivation and initiative to expand the successes of the group.

Responsibilities*

  • Data management (storage, transfer, monitoring).
  • Development and implementation of automation in lab processes.
  • Training lab personnel in the use of image or data analysis software.
  • Hiring and training new lab members (students, staff and researchers).
  • Website development and maintenance (promoting image of lab).
  • Assist the PI in day-to-day oversight of staff and students.
  • Interact with the group's key internal and external collaborators.
  • Assist the PI in managing progress of projects and preparation of manuscripts.

Required Qualifications*

The individual should have a general knowledge with Microsoft Office Applications and a general knowledge of file storage and management. A background in scientific programming would be advantageous. The candidate must have a BS degree in a relevant STEM field (e.g. mathematics, computer science, engineering) with 2+ years experience working in a medical research setting.

Desired Qualifications*

We are seeking a dynamic individual with a strong interest in participating in multidisciplinary team projects. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required for success in our collaborative research environment. The applicant must be ambitious, talented, and self-motivated with an interest in leveraging our research interests, as this position emphasizes the ability to learn new concepts and skills quickly. The candidate will be expected to work closely with our software engineer to design, implement and analyze software solutions to medical research goals. The candidate will be involved in contributing towards developing manuscripts for publication and presentation within/outside UM.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
