Your Opportunity as the Process Development Manager-Research & Development Team (Sweet Baked Snacks/Hostess)

In this role you will be responsible for leading and developing a team of Process Engineers for our Sweet Baked Snacks (SBS) Business Area, including our Hostess Brands. You will focus on developing and commercializing new process technologies to support our innovation strategy as well as continuous improvement areas ensuring that we delight and bring moments of joy to our consumer. This role will require strong partnership with operations team. The incumbent will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining our pilot lab facilities including building new capabilities, maintaining equipment and spaces, and ensuring a food and people safe working environment.

Location: Corporate Offices in Orrville, Ohio

Work Arrangements: Hybrid model; a typical week in office is 40-50% in person

In this role you will:

  • Lead a team of process engineers at various experience levels to deliver close in as well as strategic innovation and renovation pipelines for SBS. Partnering closely with cross-functional partners with a focus on innovation marketing, operations, engineering, and quality and food safety.
  • Building a strategic technical pipeline of new technologies with the ability to accelerate the growth of SBS topline as well as bottom line and/or improve the consistency and quality of our product portfolio.
  • Establishing, managing and maintaining the pilot lab facility supporting the transition from Lenexa, KS to the Orrville campus and adapting the existing best practices of JM Smucker.
  • Developing and maintaining a 5 year plan for the pilot facility including short term regular maintenance and longer term expansion of capabilities.
  • Fostering a culture of innovation and training, developing, and improving the performance of employees within their team.

What we are looking for:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in and Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years CPG experience.
  • Previous management experience in CPG with a proven track record of building teams
  • Experience in scale up/start up activities as an individual contributor as well as a manager
  • Strong knowledge of design of experiments, statistical analysis, and problem solving and a passion to coach others in these techniques and tools
  • Experience partnering internally and externally with strong collaboration.
  • Experience effectively communicating, verbally and in writing, complex ideas to a variety of stakeholders within and outside the company
  • Able to function as a technical leader in process engineering in multifunctional teams. Comfortable providing leadership across multifunctional boundaries
  • Capable of delivering in a changing and fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and navigating ambiguity
  • Confident and proactive person open to constant learning and instilling this in others
  • Promotes a workplace that stresses personal and food safety
  • Passion for coaching/mentoring less experienced employees
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ongoing 30% travel will be required. Amount may vary depending upon the mix of projects and the commercialization timelines. For the first 4 - 6 months expect higher than normal travel.

Additional skills and experience that we think would make someone successful in this role:

  • Experience in bakery products, oven technologies, and/or frying technologies
