Job Summary

Why work on the Michigan Medicine Sleep Lab Team?

As an Allied Health Tech Coordinator with Michigan Medicine, you will be an integral part of our Sleep Lab Team. You will work in collaboration with Certified Polysomnographic Technologists and our Sleep lab Supervisor to coordinate the technical activities of the clinical laboratory and the work of the laboratory staff. you?ll also independently perform complex clinical procedures. Patients will receive instruction and support from you as they prepare for tests. Additionally, there will be opportunities to train new staff members and work with polysomnographic student externs. In specialized cases, you may also develop, implement, evaluate and modify difficult recording procedures for patients or even participate in the conducting of sleep disorder research.

Responsibilities*

  • You will supervise and direct the technical staff. Plan, assign and review the work of staff and ensure a professional work environment is maintained at all times.
  • You will ensure staff members are performing and executing protocols and documentation according to established guidelines, inclusive of quality assurance.  
  • You will manage and perform all aspects of work to be done on shift, including patient monitoring, set-up, scoring, work environment and other duties as assigned.
  • You will also train technical staff in the performance of diagnostic tests and the use/maintenance of laboratory equipment including troubleshooting and repair as needed.
  • You will ensure communication of necessary information between shifts including emergent patients, adverse incidents, absences, equipment problems, etc.

Required Qualifications*

What are the qualifications?

  • High School graduation.
  • RPSGT credential.
  • Considerable experience as a laboratory or health care technician is necessary.

Physical Requirements

This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

Desired Qualifications*

  • 3-5 years experience performing sleep studies independently on adult, pediatric and neonate populations.
  • Associates Degree in a health science field.

Work Schedule

Nights with the flexibility to accommodate evenings, rotating weekends and holidays including on call responsibilities.

Union Affiliation

This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
