The Principal Planner, Supply Chain is responsible for evaluating the outputs of MRP and preparing the short-term detailed production/procurement schedule for assigned materials. This role is responsible for the strategic planning of mid to long term rough-cut production/procurement schedules and work center capacity strategies for assigned materials. This may include direct material procurement, intermediate production, finished good packaging, and/or contract manufactured materials. The incumbent will work to achieve the corporate supply goals of customer service level, production service level, inventory targets, minimization of back orders and outdated inventory, and overall continuity of supply to customers.
The Principal Planner, Supply Chain is responsible for coordinating all assigned product supply and direct material related topics on behalf of Supply Chain Management. The incumbent is responsible for challenging and optimizing existing processes to ensure robust flow of materials and information through the end-to-end supply chain. This role will routinely interface with fellow supply planners, production execution, quality management, inbound/outbound logistics, TPM, operations management, CMOs, vendors, and other business partners.
The Senior Planner, Supply Chain is responsible for evaluating the outputs of MRP and preparing the short-term detailed production / procurement schedule for assigned materials. This may include areas of direct material procurement, intermediate production, finished good packaging, and/or contract manufactured materials. It is also the responsibility of the Senior Planner to evaluate and calculate capacity constraints by assigned work center, in order to assist in developing mid to long range capacity strategies. The Senior Planner will work to achieve the corporate supply goals of customer service level, production service level, inventory targets, minimization of back orders and outdated inventory, and overall continuity of supply to customers. The Senior Planner will routinely interface with fellow supply planners, production execution, quality management, inbound/outbound logistics, TPM, operations management, CMOs, vendors, and other business partners. Duties & Responsibilities
SENIOR PLANNER:
Independently create and distribute production schedules and all accompanying documentation for assigned materials based on requirements, component availability, and capacity of assigned work centers.
Communicate with manufacturing management and floor personnel or vendors concerning daily production issues that affect the completion of the schedule. Must be able to effectively solve problems by working with manufacturing management, quality, and supply chain departments.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels of assigned materials to support inventory goals and production requirements. Put measures into place to reduce short dated/expired material in addition to taking appropriate inventory control actions regarding short dated, expired or obsolete materials.
Proactively analyze and develop appropriate safety stock levels for assigned materials. Assist with detailed inventory analysis and development of recommendations for state-of-the art inventory control, continuous improvement, and on time, in full delivery practices. Completes other strategic analysis as required.
Coordinate and plan non-commercial demand (product development batches) and new product launches.
Support senior management in strategic planning and decision making.
Identify necessary updates to Master Recipes for assigned materials in conjunction with MDM, PE, and QM.
Maintain MRP material master data for assigned materials utilizing the MDM process.
PRINCIPAL PLANNER:

- Communicates with manufacturing management and floor personnel or vendors concerning daily production issues that affect the completion of the schedule. Must be able to effectively solve problems by working with manufacturing management, quality, and supply chain departments.
- Consistently reviews, analyzes, and measures material inventory levels to ensure appropriate materials are available to meet production requirements while maintaining alignment with company inventory investment goals.
- Puts measures in place to reduce short dated and expired material and communicate to appropriate parties specific strategies for use or disposition.
- Proactively and independently analyzes and develops appropriate safety stock levels for assigned materials.
- Serves as the primary point of contact and communication link between production, warehousing, quality assurance, quality control, planning, vendors, etc. regarding the timely availability of materials to support production schedules. Done by routinely reviewing required orders and exceptions in SAP.
- Coordinates and plans non-commercial demand (product development batches) and new product launches. Must be able to provide input and ideas to optimize delivery of launches.
- Conducts detailed inventory analysis, develop recommendations for state-of-the art inventory control, continuous improvement, and on time in full delivery practices.
- Provides recommendations to senior management regarding optimizing production plans, vendor managed inventory, and supplier changes where applicable.
- Completes and/or identifies other strategic analysis as required.
- Proactively identifies necessary updates to Master Recipes for assigned materials in conjunction with MDM, PE, and QM.
- Performs the role of the Master Recipe SME.
- Maintains MRP material master data for assigned materials utilizing the MDM process.
Requirements
SENIOR PLANNER:
Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution required in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or other relevant discipline.
ASCM certification strongly preferred.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment or other relevant industry.
Will be required to learn the production processes for all materials in the assigned area of responsibility.
Must have a general understanding of systems required to perform planning tasks, (SAP and Manufacturing Workbench, or comparable ERP systems).
Excellent computer, analytical, mathematical, and Microsoft Excel skills are preferred.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills to be effective in this job.
Must have the ability to evaluate and interpret data and formulate logical conclusions.
PRINCIPAL PLANNER:
Bachelor's Degree required in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or other relevant discipline with at least eight (8) years of planning or direct operations experience in a manufacturing environment or other relevant industry; Master's Degree preferred.
- In lieu of education, twelve (12) years of progressive experience in planning or direct operations in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment or other relevant industry.
- ASCM certification required within twelve months of hire.
- Excellent computer, analytical, mathematical and Microsoft Excel skills are preferred.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills to be effective in this job.
- Must have the ability to evaluate and interpret data and formulate logical conclusions.
- Must have the ability to develop and implement strategies to optimize planning processes.
