This position is with NorthStar Clean Energy, a CMS Energy company, and is not a position of employment with Consumers Energy.
This role focuses on state and federal regulatory compliance obligations across various jurisdictions within the United States. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of energy regulations, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven track record in handling complex regulatory compliance issues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal advice on federal and state energy regulations, ensuring compliance for the parent company and its subsidiaries.
- Develop and implement compliance programs to meet regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on energy regulatory issues affecting the company and its subsidiaries.
- Draft, review, and regularly update policies relating to energy compliance.
- Monitor and analyze regulatory developments and trends to provide proactive advice to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to address compliance concerns and implement best practices.
- Prepare and deliver training sessions on regulatory compliance for company employees and internal teams.
Position Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Admission to the state bar of Michigan, or the ability to obtain
- 7+ years' experience in renewable energy and sustainability initiatives; familiarity with environmental regulations related to the energy sector; prior experience in corporate governance and risk management; and 7-10 years of experience in energy regulatory compliance, preferably in a corporate legal department.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state energy regulations, including FERC, NERC, and state public utility commissions
- Proven experience in managing complex regulatory compliance issues and proceedings.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
