We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable scientist to work as an integral part of our Boston Discovery Chemistry Separations Sciences Group. This hands-on laboratory role is responsible for the high-throughput purification of novel chemical compounds for drug discovery campaigns, troubleshooting and repairing chromatographic instrumentation, and performing purity analyses for biological assay submission. The candidate must demonstrate integrity and customer focus, strong collaborative and organizational skills, and flexibility and time management to support medicinal chemistry project needs.

Job Description

Primary responsibilities include purification of small molecules from reaction mixtures by applying standard LC/MS (Liquid Chromatography Mass spectroscopy) technologies, troubleshooting and basic repair of chromatographic instrumentation, SFC (Supercritical Fluid Chromatography) method development for chiral compounds for both enantiomeric excess (ee) determination and scaled up purification. In addition, the candidate will share and apply the best analytical chemistry and chromatography techniques to enable continuous improvement of the capabilities within the organization. This will involve driving the execution of compound purification in a high throughput automated environment. To achieve this, the candidate must have excellent skills in interacting and communicating with others, adapting to changing situations and managing their time, and a strong drive to help Medicinal Chemistry projects succeed.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • BS (Bachelor of Science) with a minimum of 3 years of industrial or academic experience in preparative chromatography and analytical chromatographic method development, or MS (Master of Science) degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or other physical science.

Required Experience:

  • Understanding of analytical and separation chemistry and organic chemistry concepts

  • Hands-on experience in the utilization, setup, and repair of HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography), LCMS (Liquid Chromatography Mass spectroscopy), and/or SFC (Supercritical Fluid Chromatography) instrumentation in an analytical/purification lab

  • Knowledge of mass spectrometry and LCMS data interpretation

  • Ability to multi-task and deliver on multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Highly self-motivated, collaboration-oriented focus and attention to detail are critical to success in this position to support cross-functional teams across dynamic research programs

  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Knowledge of HPLC and/or SFC purification of one or more of the following classes of chemical compounds: small molecules, peptides

  • Knowledge of operation of laboratory automation instrumentation (e.g., automated balances, liquid handlers, automated chromatography)

  • Experience in the development and analysis of chiral separations

  • Knowledge of informatics and understanding of analytical software for data analysis
