ABOUT THE POSITION

This is a critical new contingent/temporary Program Coordinator position within the Public Health Division of County of Marin's Health and Human Services Department (HHS). The position is specifically on the OD Free Marin (ODFM) Team within Public Health and  focuses primarily on coordinating both the strategy and the day-to-day functions of the Youth Action Team. This includes developing and coordinating the  Youth Action Team SMART Goals, activities, and the engagement of youth members in coalition meetings, community education and outreach efforts, and leadership development opportunities to support public health solutions. This position reports to the Senior Program Coordinator and works closely with the Senior Department Analyst to ensure alignment of youth action team efforts with overall coalition priorities. The Program Coordinator position also helps cultivate and coordinate volunteer engagement across the coalition and collaborates with community partners to ensure integration and cross-pollination of overdose prevention strategies and resources to help reduce and eliminate overdose.  This role requires attendance at both in-person and virtual meetings, events, and activities. The position is hybrid however there is frequent need to be present to organize, lead and/or help support community meetings and events during weekends, evenings, and after typical working hours.  The Program Coordinator also works closely with community leadership and HHS staff to advance the work of ODFM, including involvement in public relations and input on media communications strategy and  implementation, supplies management, naloxone distribution, grant deliverables, and alignment of efforts across other youth led initiatives in Marin County, among other priorities.  This role involves coordinating and hosting monthly on-line meetings, facilitating bi-weekly in-person meetings, leading youth-related events, participating in other coalition meetings on behalf of the youth, and attending partner meetings to ensure the youth voice is represented. This role also includes supervision of youth volunteers, and other youth interns (such as Career Explorers) to ensure that their work is impactful and promotes the priorities of OD Free Marin.

Our Highly Qualified Candidate: 

The ideal candidate is experienced in developing trusting relationships and working closely with youth (ages 11-25) to facilitate youth-driven action in a coalition or community-based collaborative with multiple partners and goals. The ideal candidate thrives in a work environment that is dynamic, with the expectation that they are able to coordinate and make progress on multiple concurrent projects, deliverables, often with competing priorities. The ideal candidate is not easily overwhelmed by high-pace and an abundance of concurrent initiatives in which they are involved to a variety of degrees. They are comfortable influencing and contributing to outcomes as a team-player, able to step into a leadership role when appropriate, and able to collaborate with internal and external partners. This person is a clear communicator, organized, and able to track and report on progress through a variety of platforms. The ideal candidate is creative, resourceful, a self-starter, positive, and curious. The ideal candidate cares about overdose prevention and is familiar with public health solutions and strategies to combat the epidemic.<br><br>


QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

  • Principles of program planning, reporting and evaluation.
  • Policies and procedures related to assigned program.
  • Community resources for the provision of social services, education and related services.
  • Statistical data collection methods, analysis and techniques.
  • Computer applications related to the work.

Ability to:

  • Plan and coordinate program; initiate, plan and coordinate program objectives.
  • Persuade and motivate people while demonstrating interpersonal and cultural sensitivity.
  • Integrate the services of volunteers with established department programs and activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, staff, volunteers, and community groups from a variety of social, cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Evaluate the skill and abilities of volunteers.
  • Develop and monitor program performance measurements.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree in a field closely related to the assigned program(s) and two years of experience providing community, educational, rehabilitative or counseling services including responsibility for planning and implementing programs and coordinating with community resources. Additional related experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.

Candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff's Department and must pass a Department of Justice LiveScan background check prior to appointment.<br>


Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.<br>
