Manager - Communications

Reports to: Senior Manager - Communications

Location: In Office: Orange, CT

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $115,00‬0- $140,000

Reporting to the Connecticut Director of Communications, the position is responsible for managing strategic communications that support operating company business objectives with external stakeholders and employees. Responsibilities include creating communication-related materials for internal and external stakeholders. Manages external resources to achieve timely execution of all communication-related materials and ensures appropriate branding. This position is located in Orange, CT.

Key Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the operating company leadership team and key stakeholders, develops communication strategies for issues, customers, and crises to achieve the company’s objectives.
  • Assists in crafting compelling narratives and managing the company’s reputation in collaboration with customer service, government relations, regulatory affairs, and branding.
  • Manages operating company communications including media relations, public relations, video and photo content development, storytelling, crisis communications, social media, assisting in the preparation of executives for media interviews and a variety of other projects, including internal and external events.
  • Acts as corporate spokesperson and responds to members of the media; fosters and maintains relationships with key media partners.
  • Manages development of content for Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and other social media platforms.
  • Manages content across corporate websites and intranets.
  • Supports internal employee communications.
  • Coordinates and manages communication initiatives to ensure consistency in messaging, brand, and image.
  • Serves as Public Information Officer (PIO) or Deputy Public Information Officer (DPIO) in crisis environments, including during storms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Education & Experience Required:
    • Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 7 years relevant experience required.
    • Experience in creating and editing corporate and financial communication, including press releases, Q&A's and communication platforms on all corporate matters, quarterly financial press releases, crisis communications and scripts for senior executives.
  • Skills/Abilities:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, writing, editing and project management skills.
    • Strong strategic and analytical capability.
    • Must be highly adaptable and resilient to change.
    • Strong ability to work with senior leaders and manage relations with key internal and external stakeholders on communication opportunities and business issues.
    • Ability to multi-task and quickly prioritize projects and work under pressure and tight deadlines.
    • Self-starter, independent worker, strong team and crossfunctional collaborator.
    • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills in effectively managing staff.
    • Knowledge of the electric and gas industry.
    • Ability to work occasional non-traditional work hours (nights and weekends) as needed for emergency and crisis communications.
