Full Job Description

Summary

This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Carpentry, Paint, Masonry, & Insulator Shop. As a Carpenter, you will perform general carpentry work involved in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of the Bureau's buildings as well as cabinet work such as designing, making, and repairing office furniture, equipment, and display cases.

Duties

As a Carpenter, you will:

  • Build scaffolding by cutting timbers to necessary lengths, assembling and nailing cross braces to vertical supports, and nailing planks to form platforms and walkways.
  • Construct wooden forms for pouring concrete walks, press foundations, Vault walls, and floors.
  • Construct new or relocate old room partitions and install the necessary bracing as well as disassemble and relocate systems furniture.
  • Make and install new or repair old window sashes, window frames, doors, door frames, window and door trim, and other interior and exterior trim and finished work.
  • Make and install all types of moldings as well as make and sharpen cutters used to fabricate moldings.

Physical Requirements:

Work requires extensive walking, kneeling, stooping, lifting, pulling, and climbing as the job demands. Must be able to work from scaffolds and ladders in cramped positions and small spaces.

Category rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three quality level categories; Gold (highest quality category), Silver (middle quality category), or Bronze (minimally qualified category), depending on your responses to the online questions, regarding your experience, education, and training related to this position.

A subject matter expert may be used in the evaluation. Your rating may be lowered if your responses to the online questions are not supported by the education and/or experience described in your application.
