The majority of the work performed by the person in this position will be performed in the Eastern Oregon Border Economic Region.
If you are a current Malheur County resident, you will receive 5% preference for this recruitment unless you opt out of receiving the preference.

A day in the life:
Participate in all phases of bridge maintenance and repair.
Perform minor surface repairs including pothole and concrete patching and small inlay work.
Assist with weather related emergencies and operate snowplows, deicer trucks and other equipment to clear snow from roadways.
Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and tools required for maintenance and repair of various surfaces.
Construct and place rigging and scaffolding.
Build false supports of wood or steel to safely secure structures or traffic during repairs.
Remove, fabricate, repair and replace damaged or worn steel bridge members using welding techniques and equipment.
Draft, read, interpret and carry out projects utilizing detailed plans such as field drawn sketches or bridge design construction plans.
Perform traffic control through maintenance and construction projects.
Must be able to walk, stand, bend and stoop for extended periods of time and may need to lift up to 60 pounds.
May need to be available at any time (days, overnights, weekends, holidays) for emergency, on-call and weather-related purposes.

Minimum qualifications:
One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work;
OR
Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.
Special qualifications:
You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with a tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions, OR have the ability to acquire a class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire and a CDL-A with a tanker endorsement and restrictions removed within 6 months of hire (ODOT will cover training costs) to be considered eligible for this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.
This position requires a maximum 30 minute response time to 1077 Barkley Dr, Vale Or 97918 for emergency call-outs.

Bridge maintenance, highway maintenance or closely related construction experience.
Experience working on a team.
Ability to read and comprehend policies and procedures and apply them to your work
Experience using hand tools, chainsaws and heavy equipment such as tractors, excavators, loaders or dump trucks.
Proven ability to lead by example in safety practices and promote a safe working environment.
Snow removal experience (using snow blowers, snow plows, sanding or deicing).

Note: This position will receive a cost of living adjustment (COLA) increase of 6.55% which is not reflected in the salary listed in this posting. The effective date of the increase is Jan. 1, 2025, for Feb. 1, 2025, paychecks.
