POSITION TITLE: BENEFITS NAVIGATOR
REPORTS TO: Clinical Supervisor, Linkage and Engagement

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position assists clients in determining eligibility, completing program applications, and enrolling in programs to facilitate access to medical care, medication access, insurance, and housing. Provides non-acute short term supportive services for individuals living with HIV and their family members, adhering to Caracole standards of care.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a member of a collaborative multi-disciplinary client support team with case management, prevention and housing staff providing confidential, culturally appropriate, and efficient care to assure consistent access to medication and insurance coverage.
- Provide benefits counseling to assist clients in accessing public and private medical pharmaceutical and insurance programs for which they may be eligible.
- Work with clients to gather all necessary components of applications for the Ohio HIV Drug Assistance Program (OHDAP) application, Affordable Care Act, Medicare, Medicaid, and/or other medical insurance programs; ensure thorough completion and submit for processing.
- Coordinate, track and review applications, referrals and payment requests for insurance and other program applications. Troubleshoot applications that are incomplete or denied.
- Identify eligible client medical bills and enter into the TPA web portal accurately and within program timelines. Provide client assistance with submitting medical bills or copayments for reimbursement of allowable services.
- Create, store, scan, upload and purge forms and documents in keeping with record retention and storage policies.
- Document services provided; communicate client needs, skills and barriers to the case manager and care team to allow for appropriate interventions.
- Maintain client medical records as required by regulatory or funding agencies and Caracole. Meet all required deadlines for documentation.
- Meet with clients by phone/telehealth, in the office and/or the community.
- Participate in training and maintain up to date knowledge of insurance and medication assistance program eligibility, requirements, procedures, and timelines.
- Maintain a collaborative working relationship with Caracole team members.
- Participate in individual/group supervision meetings, regional and local collaborative planning efforts, and quality management activities.
- Identify and pursue educational opportunities to promote professional growth.
- Represent Caracole in the community.
- Other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's degree with at least one year experience in a social service or healthcare setting or equivalent experience. Non-Licensed Position. Basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS, substance abuse service networks, entitlement programs, medical and social community services. Proven ability to work harmoniously with ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse groups of individuals.?
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills, including accurate keyboarding and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in verbal, print, and electronic communications.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English with good verbal and written communication skills.
- Sensitivity to persons living with chronic disease (HIV/AIDS and/or addiction) and co-existing social, mental, and physical conditions.
- Bilingual (Sp/En) preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position includes time spent working in the office, remote at home, and in the community. Work is generally 9-5 M-F. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position for multiple hours. Must operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a phone and copy machine. Must have the ability to accurately communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to move throughout the building and other sites in the community. Employee must have reliable transportation to travel to community sites and meetings as needed. Driver's license and car preferred but not required. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
SALARY:
This position is full time, hourly (non-exempt). The pay range is approx. $43,000-$45,000 annually, which is $20.67 - $21.63 per hour, based on experience.
