Position Summary:
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Marketing is a critical leadership role within Berklee’s Communications and Marketing division, charged with developing and implementing innovative, high-impact marketing strategies that advance Berklee’s mission and global presence. This position plays a vital role in elevating Berklee’s visibility and reputation as the world’s premier destination for contemporary music, dance, theater, and creative entrepreneurship.
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Communications and Marketing, the AVP holds shared accountability for shaping and delivering a cohesive brand narrative that authentically connects with diverse audiences, including prospective students, alumni, faculty, donors, and industry leaders. This role requires a strategic thinker who can navigate the complexities of a global institution with multiple campuses and program offerings, ensuring that all marketing efforts align with Berklee’s values, mission, and institutional goals.
The AVP leads the execution of institution-wide marketing initiatives, encompassing integrated campaigns for brand awareness, admissions recruitment, and performance marketing to showcase Berklee’s vibrant culture to prospective audiences. This leader will also oversee data-driven approaches to resource allocation, campaign performance measurement, and continuous optimization of marketing strategies.

Essential Functions/Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement annual and long-term marketing strategies to support Berklee’s institutional goals.
Reinforce Berklee’s role as a thought leader in global discussions on the arts and their role in shaping civic life.
Brand Management
Serve as a senior advisor to the SVP of Communications and Marketing, contributing to high-level strategic marketing discussions and decisions.
Shape and maintain a unified brand narrative across all marketing channels and audiences.
Ensure the cohesive execution of marketing campaigns across digital, social, print, and event platforms, maintaining a consistent brand identity for prospective students, current students, alumni, faculty, staff, and external partners.
Foster strong working relationships with artistic directors, academic leadership, faculty, staff, students, and alumni to position marketing as a collaborative and responsive leader in advancing Berklee’s mission.
Enrollment Marketing
Collaborate with the Sr. Director of Enrollment Marketing to ensure marketing strategies align with and support recruitment marketing goals and KPIs for undergraduate, graduate, and summer programs.
Ensure alignment in marketing messaging and prospective and incoming student communications with authentic student experiences.
Provide oversight of enrollment marketing campaigns to support recruitment and retention at Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Berklee Valencia, Berklee NYC, and Berklee Summer Programs.
Partnership Development
Actively cultivate and manage external partnerships that provide new levels of understanding and access to the Berklee experience.
Inspire new audiences to progress from brand awareness to engagement, supporting marketing goals.
Performance Marketing
Collaborate with the Senior Concert Producer for Berklee Presents and the Director of Video and Concert Production to develop impactful performance marketing strategies.
Promote events and extend concert content reach across digital channels, including the website, digital displays, and YouTube.
Leverage marketing to engage audiences, drive awareness, and boost ticket sales.
Market Research and Optimization
Conduct market analyses to identify trends, customer behaviors, and new opportunities for growth.
Optimize the marketing budget through data-driven resource allocation, maximizing ROI.
Develop and implement metrics to track, assess, and report on the effectiveness of marketing activities.
Team Leadership
Lead a diverse team of marketing, video content creation, and concert production professionals, fostering a collaborative, innovative environment.
Serve on the Communications and Marketing Division leadership team.
Promote a team culture aligned with Berklee’s mission and ensure support for institutional needs.
Facilitate professional development opportunities to enhance team performance.
Minimum Requirements:
10+ years of marketing leadership experience, with expertise in digital marketing, multi-channel campaigns, and creative storytelling.
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field (Master’s in Marketing or MBA preferred).

Direct experience managing a team of ten employees or more.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC. (Responsible for on-call, 24 HR. coverage, etc.):
Hybrid modality, three days a week required in office.
Occasional nights, weekends, and travel, as needed, for partnerships, events, and concerts.
