Job Description:

Function: Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Community Standards and Conflict Resolution, the Assistant Director of Community Standards and Conflict Resolution is responsible for the management and delivery of the community standards process including (but not limited to): Adjudicating student cases and determining sanctions for policy violations, providing preventative and informational programs and services, assisting with student-faculty and student-staff related issues, and working with Campus Public Safety to ensure enforcement of college policies, sanctions, and state laws.

This position will support projects and events for the Assistant Dean for Community Standards and Conflict Resolution and may require evening and weekend work. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate increasing levels of responsibility during the time of their employment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Assistant Dean for Community Standards and Conflict Resolution with coordination of the College’s Student Conduct Process, including managing cases for adjudication and ensuring that all cases are resolved within an appropriate time frame.

  • Assist the Assistant Dean for Community Standards and Conflict Resolution with coordinating, training, and advising conduct officers to implement the college’s student conduct process consistently. Additionally, assist with the facilitation of training to key student staff, including Resident Assistants and Orientation Leaders.

  • Meet with students who have been involved in student conduct violations. Adjudicate cases, conduct investigations, assign sanctions, maintain files on casework in Maxient student database system, and follow up on sanction completion for all students.

  • Provide conflict resolution services including conflict coaching, facilitated dialogues, and mediation. Employ components of restorative justice as casework allows, under the guidance of the Assistant Dean for Community Standards and Conflict Resolution.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive educational and outreach initiatives and programming for the Berklee community regarding student expectations, high-risk behaviors, conflict resolution, as well as other topics as necessary.

  • May serve as a Title IX/Equity investigator as needed in cases where student is the alleged respondent. This includes full adjudication and investigation of all cases of discrimination and harassment as outlined in Berklee’s Equity Policy. The Title IX/Equity investigator will conduct a prompt and thorough investigation, identify and interview witnesses, gather and secure relevant documentation, and identify other information that would be helpful in bringing the matter to a resolution.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational sanctioning options.

  • Assist with the development of policies and protocols under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Community Standards and Conflict Resolution.

  • Advise & meet with student groups on expectations and standards.

  • Review and generate informational and statistical reports identifying student conduct trends.

  • Serve as a member of various teams and committees as needed.

  • Assist with Office functions/events or other duties assigned by Assistant Dean for Community Standards and Conflict Resolution.

  • Maintain office hours and attend meetings as designated by the Assistant Dean for Community Standards and Conflict Resolution.

  • Serve in the absence of the Assistant Dean for Community Standards and Conflict Resolution as needed.

Experience:

  • Master’s degree in a field of study relevant to student affairs or appropriate combination of experience and education strongly preferred.

  • Commitment to the mission of Berklee, along with an ability to effectively translate a philosophy of student development into practice.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years professional experience and knowledge in a Coordinator position or higher within student conduct, student services, and student development.

  • Strong leadership, organizational and supervisory skills. Experience in program development & management, and event planning.

  • Excellent knowledge of student rights and federal regulations.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal organization and detail-orientated skills.

  • Strong ethics and commitment to fairness.

  • Conduct database management experience.
