Full Job Description
The accreditation writing specialist is responsible primarily for providing essential writing and editing support for the university’s institutional and specialized programmatic accreditation work. This role involves developing, editing, and proofreading a variety of documents supporting external approvals, including self-studies, interim reports, student and stakeholder-facing communications, program handbooks, and other deliverables. The ideal candidate will possess strong academic writing, developmental editing, and copyediting skills, as well as a keen eye for detail and accuracy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write, and edit a variety of accreditation documents, including self-studies and other institutional and programmatic reports as well as program handbooks and other academic documents.
  • Coordinate regular review of foundational academic documents, including maintaining the editorial calendar and document management.
  • Provide developmental editing and copyediting to ensure clarity, coherence, and accuracy in writing.
  • Work closely with faculty, staff, and leadership to gather information and develop effective writing strategies for accreditation documents and evidence pieces.
  • Analyze accreditation deliverables for accuracy and provide quality assurance support for written documents and reports.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects, changes in project scope, and shifting priorities to maintain project requirements and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with departmental and cross-functional peers to ensure proper resolution to questions and issues during the document development process.
  • Continually review the document development process to ensure quality.

Job Skills:

  • Excellent academic or technical writing and editing skills, including familiarity with APA style.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently, at times with limited supervision, and as part of a team.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to provide feedback in a nonjudgmental, growth-oriented perspective.
  • Knowledge of higher education accreditation standards and requirements preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Two years of experience in academic writing, editing, or a related field.
  • Experience in higher education, especially in writing and editing academic documents.
  • Experience in accreditation or regulatory processes in higher education preferred, but not required. especially but not required.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (in English, journalism, or related field) required, Master’s preferred
  • All degrees must be conferred from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

$49,600.00 - $74,400.00 - Salary
